Punk rock Buddhist monk Brad Warner and burlesque dancer and promoter Courtney Cruz joined Mark and Nicole for a fascinating show.
Brad talked about being asked by his Japanese zen teacher to be ordained as a monk much to his surprise, how his book Hardcore Zen got him a few Hollywood meetings and eventually a film where he gave dharma talks while dressed in a bunny outfit, how his writing has high profile fans such as Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and adult film legend Nina Hartley, why we take the Dalai Lama and Godzilla too seriously and he played a song from his punk band Zero Defex
Courtney talked about growing up in Orange County and how her family was kicked out of Jehova’s Witnesses for being friends with homosexuals (gasp), how she has been comfortable with nudity from a young age, so comfortable that she posed nude while 8 months pregnant covered in blood for an album cover by her husband’s band Psycho Charger, how she has taken burlesque and modernized it with show themes including Barbie, wrestling, comic book villians and her show Star Girls which gives a sexy spin on Star Wars characters and got her some unwanted attention from George Lucas when a picture of her in a storm trooper outfit went viral
